McAvoy seems to be everywhere

oh.. well, i guess it's just me after watchin ATONEMENT and PENELOPE back to back...
haha.. mabok James McAvoy...
both are romance, but are just way different..

Atonement is good.. yup.. really good! (d'oh.. like it wudn't be, after all the oscar excitement...)
i specifically luuuuuuv the long tracking shot of the battlefield.... aahh... breathtaking... (how cud they make somethin like that?)
but of course movie like this is somehow always depressed me,
In the other hand, Penelope was sweet and lovely.. another feel good film... but not those kind of cheesy and shallow chickflick... OK, maybe a bit cheesy in a moderate amount...
oh.. yeah.. if u're planning to watch these two movies, i suggest u better watch it in the right order... Atonement first, and then Penelope... at least it gave the happy effect to Atonement miserable ending.. haha

i was rooting 'yeah!' almost the whole movie...
though the directing seems too one dimensional, it was just intense non-stop...
but the last 15 minutes was just dreadful...
it's like bad icing on a really good cake...

fyi, Forest Whitaker definitely steals the show..

KUDOS for the writers!!

hmmm..
it's season 4 for HOUSE,
and when it's supposed to get you bored out of ur head, and people do watch it only for the sake of watching it,
guess what?? the show's getting even better...!!
the whole "the apprentice" twists for HOUSE definitely working for me...
KUDOS for the writers!!


btw, if your role model is mr. Greg House himself (like me), u shud browse for lots and lots of houseisms in the official webpage...

how can someone be that adorable...??

MATT SARACEN is officially the most adorable man in the history of TV....hahaha.....

akhirnya, gw terpaksa nyerah untuk beli season 1 nya Friday Night Lights...
hahaha..
finished it, and rewatched it in 3 days....

emang, Friday Night Lights doesn't get as much of appreciations as it should have...
for me, this is the show that made you feel like you'r watchin real people....
ya know.. everythin just felt real....
ditambah directingnya emang kesannya kayak reality shows...
which is creatively genius...

ceritanya tentang tim high school football di suatu kota, Dillon, TX...
yang as far as my knowledge goes, sports and drama are one of the best mixture in show business...
pokoknya, football is a big thing in Dillon...
yah... smuanya evolved around it lah..
the coach, the injured star quarterback, etc...
but of course, my favorite, the awkward new quarterback, Matt Saracen...

week full of waste...

saat semua warga indonesia merayakan minggu 17 agustus...
apa yang gw lakukan?
gw pergi ke ITC.. belanja DVD..
in my defense, i would say.. dengan itu, gw mendukung para pembajak2 indonesia supaya mereka terus berkarya... nasionalis dong??
haha...

at least.. akhirnya gw nemu DVD Factory Girl yang udah bagus.. (kalo istilah mba'nya "uda ori")
dan tentu saja, as expected, isinya sienna miller pamer badan semua (of course..!!)...
TAPI... somehow i find this movie very entertaining (bukan bagian sienna miller telanjangny).. i mean the part about the factory really does amuse me...
tapi siapa yang peduli tentang si Edie Sedgwick?? Why not make the whole movie about Andy Warhol and his factory??
ohyeah.. love the poster by the way..

Some born evil.. Some get their degree..

this is something i've been reading lately..
EVIL GENIUS
yeah.. it's a catchy tittle... and it has a really great cover.. (u know i'm a sucker when it's about book's cover art)
so i thought.. why not...

to tell you the truth.. after JK Rowling, it's a bit dissapointment..
but it's not fair to compare any books to the Potter saga aight?
so.. anyway.. the whole idea of the book was great.. i mean GREAT...
about a kid, who's amazingly genius, Cadel Piggot.. since 7 years old, Piggot has always been fascinated any kind of systems, and any way to hack it....
and the he got recruited into a university that teaches the art of evil... haha..
cool huh?
that alone, wud keep my nose on the book...
but somehow.. i hate the fact that there's not much of details in the book..
like when he hacked the transportation system, and when he made a super-micro-computer-stuffs, etc...

still.. this one is worth to read... i'm always fond with the idea of using your brain in the name of evil... haha...

No Sacrifice, No Glory.....

god.. it's been years, since the last time i saw a great, no, AMAZING sci-fi movie...
salute to my future Boss, Spielberg.. (Tunggu gw Pak Spielberg!!)
Gila sumpah action nya keren abis!! Michael Bay emang keren dah action dan explosion ny..!!
great action, great scenario, great effect.... Plenty of fun!!!

and the most satisfying of it all was Shia Labeouf!!! (paling ga buat gw)
Ga nyesel gw, uda mempromosikan Shia Labeouf ke semua orang...
emang manteb dah...!!

a face to watch...



film dia yang must-see :
- The Battle of Shaker's Heights, baru nonton kemarin, dan ternyata bagus...
- Holes, ini typical film Disney yang ringan dan menghibur... LUCU!!
- The Greatest Game Ever Played, sekali lagi, typical film Disney...
- Bobby, agak2 mengecewakan karena ekspektasi gw lebih (gara2 nama terkenalnya banyak bet.. gw pikir bakal sekeren Crash), tapi Shia-nya memuaskan kok!
- The Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, gw belum nonton sih, tapi katanya bagus.. susah bet nyarinya..
- Disturbia, film thriller yang pendek banget rasanya, tapi disini Shia-nya ganteng..

his coming movie :
- Surf's Up, cute..
- Transformers, bener2 bikin dia jadi a-lister nih..
- Indiana Jones 4, jadi anaknya harrison ford.. hmm i wonder...

My Name is Earl

haha.. emang bener siy kalo kata orang televisi itu adalah suatu konspirasi untuk pembodohan umat manusia..
siapa yang ngerancang? gw ga tau.. tapi salute! because it does works...
slalu ngerasa kan IQ points lo drop satu persatu slama lagi nonton TV, yah kira-kira sama efeknya kalo lo makan Momogi... (well, this is another kind of conspiracy.. nanti deh kita bahas..)..

btw, gw baru menemukan satu tontonan pembodohan lagi.. My Name is Earl.... bodoh...
mungkin ga sebodoh dan ga sebego Arrested Development sih (apa kabar ya ni acara?), tapi paling gak kadar bego-nya cukup untuk membuat lo tetep duduk depan TV sambil cengengesan...
gw sebenernya udah tau ni acara dari dulu.. katanya siy cukup well-criticized... ada Jason Lee-nya.. (the lead actor selalu penting bwat gw.. Jason Lee? bole lah..)
tapi tau kan, males banget bwat nge-download acara yang belum jelas kedudukannya di LUSHTEA-O-METER.. (huhu.. ada ya?)
jadi ya akhirnya tidak ada aksi mendownload sampai akhirnya di TV sono uda jauh banget...
Untungnya, sekarang pembajak Indonesia udah mulai pada gaul.. yang dibajak uda ga yang standar-standar..
Akhirnya gw bli ajah di suatu tempat di Mangga Dua.. (yippie!!)

yahh.. setelah gw tonton...
i must say pilot-nya lucu gila... bener-bener de.. gw ga boong... kreatif ni orang...
jadi ceritanya si Earl ini kan tadinya crooks gitu.. maling lah gitu...
Nah trus setelah dia sadar kehidupannya dy itu ancur berat, dy nonton suatu acaranya Carson Daly, dimana si Carson Daly-nya itu ngomong, "you do good things, and good things will come back to you; you do bad things, and bad things will come back to you; it's KARMA.."
Dan begonya dia terinspirasi gitu.. (aneh.. Carson Daly kok dipercaya?)
yah akhirnya dia kaya bikin list perbuatan buruk yang pernah dia lakukan, dan dia berusaha ngebales kejahatannya dy itu..

kalo kata tagline-nya si "Karma is a funny thing!"..
emang si ternyata...
Tapi sayangnya.. walaupun pilot-nya lucu gila, episode-episode setelahnya kadang-kadang kesannya datar gitu...
ya iya sih.. orang critanya cuman tentang dy berusaha nyoretin list kejahatannya dia...
datar..
bagusnya niy, karakternya unik-unik dan lucu-lucu gitu...
ada Randy, adiknya Earl yang bego-nya setengah mati.. (my personal favourite niy)
Joy, ex-wife-nya Earl.. cewek white trash gitu de...
Crabman, suaminya Joy yang baru.. (aneh abis..)
sama Catalina, imigran gelap yang jadi housekeeper di kamarnya Earl.. cuman yang gw bingung tiap hari yang dia urusin cuman satu kamar doang...

yah.. overall, MENARIK!!!!!!!! (notice the capitalizing)

Lupe Fiasco

my new found idol...
Lupe Fiasco...
another guy from chi..
despite his weird and cheesy name (lupe fiasco? whadahell r u thinking?), all i can find about him everywhere is only praises and success..
setela ngedengerin albumnya dia yg highly acclaimed "Food and Liquor", i felt amazed..
beneran.. percaya deh.. keren banget...
(bahkan kalo menurut gw he exceeded Mr. Kanye West who actually bring him to the map)
don't even remember when was the last time i listen to a hip-hop artist and felt like i'm listening not only great tunes tapi juga solid story...
stiap lagunya emang berasa banget kaya satu cerita yg penuh dengan smart wordplay..
not just a bunch of stupid punchlines like what those artists sing these days...

some of the critics said "he's bringin lyricsm back to the game".. (he definitely is)
only 25 years old, Fiasco sounds wise beyond his age..
on every single track, he rhymes about different subjects filled with details..
from common stuffs to his deep view about some specific things..

I don't get caught up in the stuff where nobody can understand me..
Sometimes I just make "dumb" records, because it's better to have a record where you're just telling a story, just describing a situation..
You ain't trying to put in crazy metaphors, trying to be the punch-line king every two bars...
It's like, I actually go in and let the record direct it...
It might be some complex lyrical junk, it might be a regular story record. It might be some dumbed down, whatever..

mirip-mirip Jay-Z waktu pertama kali kluar wit his way of rhymin, but without all that hustlin' shit..
yep!! kalo lo mau tau hip-hop artist yang bener2 bener bersih liriknya.. ya dia ini salah satunya..
even, he stated ini one of his song, 'Hurt Me Soul',

"I used to hate hip-hop... yup, because the women degraded..

yep.. that's him and his image being a proud moslem..
kapan lagi coba lo dengerin album hip-hop yang diawali dengan 'bismillahirahmanirahim'....
he even did a flipped out version of Kanye's 'Jesus Walks' from a moslems perspective, judulnya 'Muhammad Walks'...
mungkin itu bagian dari gimmicks-nya dia? but who cares.. he does have skill...

Miami Ink

my new favorite show....
seru..

sebenernya dulu waktu awal2 gw pikir, "niy acara apaan siy.. a bunch of people getting tattooed.. apa menariknya?"
tapi trus karena akhirnya gw 'terpaksa' nonton (thanks to my brother!), lama2 akhirnya gw suka juga...
well, ternyata Miami Ink MENARIK...
this show is about a tattoo shop co-owned by artists Ami James and Chris Nunez, and also features artists Chris Garver, Darren Brass and Yoji Harada.
Show-nya si kbanyakan isinya tentang the process and finished work of these tattoo artists by featuring a number of customers along with their backstory and motivations for their tattoos...
tapi yg paling menarik bwat gw, ya jelas si Ami James itu... dy itu orang Israel (i have nothin against it) yg uda lama tinggal di Miami..
There's just something about his eyes.. jenis mata yg bagian item2nya (pupil atau iris) lebar banget...
(ga tau de.. bikin lemes... hehe..)
ada ga siy orang Indonesia yg matanya kaya gitu..?
kalo misalnya dulu gw mikir, "apaan si susahnya nge-tattoo orang?"
sekarang gw malah jadi mikir kalo tattoo itu suatu bentuk seni yang susah juga...
dan kalo ngeliat hasilnya, gw jadi sangat respect sama tattoo artists yg jago2 itu...
keren2 banget de tattoo2nya, apalagi kalo yang pake shading2an...
kayaknya mereka bener2 menganggap tattoo itu serius..
(ya iyalah.. seumur idup gitu..)
Gw jadi pengen punya tattoo... bole ga siy?

Pirates of the Caribbean

DEAD MAN'S CHEST

Knapa ga ada yang ngasi tau kalo endingnya cliffhanger????!!!
kok ngeselin si?!
knapa musti ada lagi?!
don't get me wrong.. i love Pirates of the Caribbean... i just hope this won't be one of those movies that make you goes, "oh.. no.. another sequel..."
yeah... people at Hollywood shu'd learn to stop, before making another flop aight? (wow! it rhymes..)

OK.. gw emang uda tlat banget nonton film ini...
jadi, gara2 itu, (supaya excitement-nya ga ilang) gw rada2 nge-block segala macem publisitasnya film ini this past few weeks...
ternyata... monyong!!!
tau gitu gw nungguin yg ktiga kluar dulu de baru nonton skalian... (engga juga ding!)
anyway...... the movie is great!!!
fun characters, great lines, and some brilliantly action sequences...
cuman satu yg agak mengecewakan, kok critanya kesannya dipaksain gitu siy?
(well maybe it's just me..)
despite that... Johnny Depp was still the one that kept me glued...
(yeahh.. not a big fan of that oh-so-cutey Orlando Bloom..)
mnurut gw di sequel ini, Captain Jack Sparrow is much more impressive than in the first one...
(mungkin karena skarang critanya lebi difokusin ke dy ya?!)
he's so damn hilarious!!
a lot more physical comedy, but i don't mind....
i laugh a lot... maybe the most fun i had watchin movies since ages...

(at least the girl behind me at the cinema thinks so too.. this girl was hilariously laughing the whole time.. believe me! THE WHOLE TIME.. and by 'hilariously laughing', i mean laughing in a loud shrieking annoying sound.... omygod.. what a nightmare...)

"IN MY MIND"

yeahh.. right...
the not-so-anticipated-album-anymore from PHARRELL WILLIAMS...

i've been waiting for this album since.. i don know... FOREVER..
pertama2 dy bilang albumnya kluar December..
i waited...
trus dy ganti jadi Januari..
i waited...
and that date got cancel too..
i still waited...
three singles out, but the album still not out yet...
i am sick waiting...

then now here we are...
almost a half year delays...
and the album is suddenly out..
tapi masalahnya gw uda bosen aja gitu.. it just lost its hypes..
n by the way Neptunes juga ga seproduktif dulu...
so.. i listened his album..
(yeah.. it is still PHARRELL WILLIAMS right?)
lemme tell you what i think...
so, this is his solo album right.. with no Mr. Chad Hugo...
jadinya berasa banget sihh ke-tidak-Neptunes-annya...
Kalo misalnya lo biasa denger lagunya Neptunes (atau mungkin N.E.R.D.), biasanya ada dikit unsur Hard Core-nya kan..?
which is cool..
Tapi di album ini.. nuthin like that...
felt bit plain, still wit those bouncy familliar sounds that he always do...
that, n then mixed with shallow lyrics... bit predictable maybe?!

OK.. now, the real problems...
he still can't rap, n still can't really sing...
and weird enough that this guy tried to make this album both hip-hop and RnB...
(whohoo.. big ego...)
but, damn... i appreciate that he's tryn to make this whole new style of singing...
and.. still i just love his breezy n cozy version of RnB...
and.. about the hip-hop.. it's smart enough that he invited a real hip-hop artist to actually rap...

maybe this is not 2004 anymore.. and Neptunes is not the biggest producer in music scene...
but i guess the album still worth to listen seeing the guy's reputations and all..
hehe...
and believe me.. there's a better track than that annoying repetitive "Can I have it like that"..
so yeah.. there's hope...

Teriyaki Boyz

"the new super sensational rap group from japan..."
before, i wudn't care to notice an asian rap group.. yea, who cares?
but then i saw these huge names on their debut album "Beef or chicken" like Neptunes, Daft Punk n Adrock.... What?!! yes, Neptunes, Daft Punk n Adrock of the Beastie Boys it is!!!
then i try to listen to the whole album...
and i just gotta say, "this actually is pretty cool.."
the music seems so familiar for Neptunes fans, yet interesting because they're rapping in Japanese... (hilarious in many way.. haha..)
but maybe they're just tryin to hard to stereotype the American hip-hop type of music....
no originality except that they r using their own languange...
however, this is a fun n light album to hear.. So who cares about the originality.. because it is just fun to listen!!!
